A Napoli fan, 40, was stabbed by his 35-year-old wife in a domestic dispute sparked by a VAR decision during Sunday’s Serie A match between Atalanta and Napoli.
The incident occurred in Capodimonte, Naples, as the couple watched the televised game, which ended in a 2-1 victory for Atalanta.
The husband became furious after a penalty awarded to Napoli was overturned, leading him to shout insults at the TV. His wife reportedly misinterpreted the outbursts as personal attacks, and the argument escalated rapidly.
She threw scissors and then grabbed a kitchen knife, stabbing him in the side.
Police arrived at the scene, arrested the woman, and found multiple knives, including an oyster opener, in her handbag. The victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The match had been marred by controversy, with Napoli’s sporting director Giovanni Manna criticizing the “absurd and embarrassing” refereeing decisions.
