Dr. Chiogo Constance Ikokwu, an anchor and analyst with Arise News, has announced her decision to take a leave of absence from journalism to pursue a career in politics.

Ikokwu, who is widely regarded for her role in holding public officials accountable and promoting issues of public interest, said her decision was informed by her firsthand experience of gaps in governance and her belief that competent professionals should actively contribute to nation-building.

She said the move reflects a growing view that individuals with integrity, ideas and a clear understanding of societal challenges must go beyond observation to participate directly in leadership and policymaking.

The media personality, who hails from Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, said she intends to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives to represent her people.

According to her, “This transition is, for me, a continuation of service, just on a different platform. I have had the privilege of telling the stories that shape our nation, holding power to account, amplifying underrepresented voices, and helping citizens make sense of complex issues.”

She added that her experience in journalism has deepened her understanding of Nigeria’s governance challenges and opportunities.

“It has reinforced my belief that informed, ethical leadership is essential to progress. It is from this vantage point that I have made the difficult but necessary decision to step into the political arena,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ikokwu further stated that her work as a journalist exposed her to the daily realities of Nigerians, including their struggles and aspirations.
