The Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District and Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Most Distinguished Senator Dr Yunus Abiodun Akintunde, has concluded the installation of 3,000 additional solar-powered street lights across the senatorial district.

The latest intervention brings the total number of solar lights completed under the Light up Oyo Central Project to 12,000, following the completion of the first phase of 9,000 solar lights across the 118 wards in Oyo Central.

The first phase provided at least 20 solar lights to each of the 118 wards, covering communities, markets, roads, religious centres and other public spaces across the district.

The second phase, comprising 3,000 additional solar lights, has now been completed across the eleven local government areas of Oyo Central.

As part of the second phase, 150 solar lights were also installed at police formations and other security facilities across the senatorial district, including the Oyo State Police Command, Eleyele, Ibadan.

The security facilities covered include Moniya Area Command, Moniya Divisional Headquarters, Iroko Police Outpost, Ijaye Police Outpost, Ojoo Divisional Headquarters, and Orogun Police Outpost in Akinyele Local Government Area.

In Lagelu, the beneficiary facilities are Iyana Offa Divisional Headquarters, Alakia Adelubi Divisional Headquarters, Monatan Divisional Headquarters, Jonku Police Outpost, Kajorepo Divisional Headquarters, Akobo Divisional Headquarters, and Olorunda-Aba Divisional Headquarters.

In Ona-Ara, the project covers Ogberé Divisional Headquarters and Akanran Divisional Headquarters, while facilities in Egbeda include Egbeda Divisional Headquarters, Ogungbade Divisional Headquarters, Airport Police Headquarters and Gbagi Area Command.

The facilities covered in Oluyole are Idi Ayunre Divisional Headquarters, Toll Gate Divisional Headquarters and Orita Challenge Police Station.

In Ogo-Oluwa, the beneficiaries include Ajaawa Divisional Headquarters, Opete Divisional Headquarters and the Civil Defence facility.

In Surulere, the project covers Iresaadu Divisional Headquarters, Iresaapa Divisional Headquarters, Okoo Divisional Headquarters and Okin-Apa Divisional Headquarters, while Atiba has Atiba Divisional Headquarters.

The four facilities covered in Afijio are Awe Divisional Headquarters, Jobele Divisional Headquarters, Ilora Divisional Headquarters and Fiditi Divisional Headquarters.

In Oyo East, the facilities are Durbar Police Station and the Passport Office, while Ojongbodu Divisional Headquarters is covered in Oyo West.

The Oyo State Police Command, Eleyele, Ibadan, is also among the security facilities covered by the intervention.

The solar lighting at the security formations is expected to improve night-time visibility around the facilities and provide a better working environment for security personnel.

The Light-Up Oyo Central Project by Senator Yunus Akintunde is aimed at improving visibility in communities and along roads while supporting social and economic activities after dark.

With the completion of the additional 3,000 solar lights, Senator Akintunde has now delivered a total of 12,000 solar lights across Oyo Central, covering all eleven local government areas.

The intervention also complements his legislative responsibility as Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs by providing practical infrastructure support to police and other security formations within the senatorial district.
