The National Association of Oduduwa Students (NAOS) has called on prominent religious and traditional leaders in Nigeria, including Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), and the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, to urgently intervene in the worsening security situation across the country.
In a stateement signed by its National President, Comrade Benedict Adetunji, on Wednesday, the association expressed deep concern over the increasing case of kidnapping, banditry, and violent attacks that have continued to threaten the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians.
According to the statement, the recent abduction of school children and teachers in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State is another painful reminder that insecurity is beginning to reachan an alarming level, requiring urgent national attention.
“We respectfully call on Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, and the Ooni of Ife to move beyond public expressions of concern and pay a direct visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.”
“Your voices carry significant moral authority and influence, and this is a critical moment for you to advocate strongly for decisive action against insecurity,”
The NAOS President noted that while the President remains the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, respected religious and traditional leaders possess the capacity to provide guidance, counsel, and support that can strengthen government efforts toward restoring peace and security.
The group emphasized that Nigerians live in fear as kidnapping, armed attacks, and criminal activities continue to spread across various parts of the country.
“Today, many Nigerians no longer feel safe. Roads that were once used freely have become dangerous. Parents are afraid for their children, communities are under constant threat, and citizens are increasingly losing confidence in their safety.”
This situation demands urgent and decisive leadership.”, it noted.
NAOS further urged the Tinubu led government to intensify efforts toward rescuing the abducted students and teachers in Orire Local Government Area and as well ensure that the evil perpetrators are brought to justice.
The association stressed the need for national security to remain foremost priority of every government, calling for a co-ordinated approach involving political leaders, security agencies, religious institutions, traditional rulers, and civil society organizations.
“Nigeria cannot continue on this path. The time has come for all influential leaders to speak with one voice and demand stronger action against insecurity.”
“We believe that a united national response can help restore confidence, protect lives, and secure the future of our nation.”
Meanwhile, NAOS reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the safety, welfare, and future of Nigerian students, called on all well-meaning citizens to support efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and security across the country.
