LAWGAN Backs Unical Students in Law Course Row

The Law Graduates Association of Nigeria (LAWGAN) has expressed concern over the decision by the University of Calabar (UNICAL) to ask some law students to return to their former departments.

In a statement signed by President Kayode Bello and Public Relations Officer Ojo Clement, LAWGAN said it recognised the need to comply with admission rules but was worried about the impact on students who were admitted, paid fees, attended lectures and progressed to 300 Level.

The students had acted on the university’s representations and recognition of their status as law students, LAWGAN noted.

Though the matter is sub judice, LAWGAN appealed to UNICAL, NUC, JAMB, the Council of Legal Education and other authorities to intervene and explore an amicable resolution.

“We call on all parties to prioritise the academic future of the affected students and seek a resolution that preserves the integrity of legal education without sacrificing years of academic effort,” LAWGAN said.

The association stood in solidarity with the students and called for a peaceful resolution.
