The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms and ammunition during an operation in Ibadan.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on June 23, 2026.

The suspects are Akinpelu Afeez, 39, alias “Starboy”; Taiwo Adams, 45, alias “Adamson”; and Salawudeen Taofeeq, 35, alias “T.K”.

Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, said the arrests followed credible intelligence received on June 20, 2026, about a syndicate snatching exotic vehicles in Ibadan metropolis and environs.

He said the intelligence revealed the suspects were converging around Olorunsogo, Ibadan, to launch armed robbery operations within and outside the metropolis.

The Commissioner directed operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, to act swiftly on the information.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to involvement in a series of vehicle-snatching operations across Ibadan and admitted using locally fabricated firearms.

Based on their confessional statements, detectives executed a search warrant at the suspects’ hideout in Aremo area, Ibadan, and recovered two locally made cut-to-size single-barrel guns and six live cartridges.

The Commissioner said investigation was ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, dismantle the network, and arrest receivers and buyers of stolen vehicles.

He reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to combating violent crimes and urged the public to provide timely and credible information.

“For emergencies, residents can contact the Oyo State Call Response Center toll-free line 615, or the Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.”, he said.
