The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has commenced an investigation into allegations that its officials extorted commercial bus drivers along the Coastal Road.

The allegation, which surfaced in a social media post circulating on Facebook by ‘Objectv Media,’ claimed that LASTMA officers arrested commercial bus drivers and demanded ₦100,000 before releasing their vehicles.

In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, the agency said it views the allegation with “utmost seriousness” and does not condone misconduct or abuse of office.

The authority said it has initiated a “thorough, impartial and comprehensive investigation” into the claim, assuring that any officer found culpable would face disciplinary action.

“LASTMA remains a disciplined, professional and ethically guided government institution that does not, under any circumstances, condone misconduct, abuse of office or extortion by any of its personnel,” the statement read, adding that the ongoing inquiry would ensure accountability in line with established regulations.

As part of the process, the agency invited the individual identified as Tosin, who made the allegation, to present evidence at its headquarters in Oshodi.

“The Authority hereby extends an open invitation to the individual identified as Tosin to appear at the Office of the General Manager, LASTMA Headquarters, Oshodi and present concrete and verifiable evidence to substantiate his claims,” it stated.

However, the agency reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability and professionalism, urging members of the public to report any misconduct through appropriate quarters.
