The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has hailed the Independent Investigative Panel’s report on Nigerian Correctional Service as a crucial step towards transparency and reform.

Speaking at a Stakeholders’ Engagement held at Transcorp Hill Hotel in Abuja on Tuesday, Tunji-Ojo emphasized the need to address systemic challenges, including corruption and human rights concerns, to transform correctional facilities into institutions of reformation and rehabilitation.

The Ondo born minister lauded the panel’s diligence and commitment, urging a collective action to build a system that upholds justice and restores hope in the Correctional service.

Tunji-Ojo, however said the federal government under the leadership President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has improved inmate feeding allowances and approved measures to decongest facilities, as part of its zero-tolerance policy on corruption and abuse of power.

Recall, the panel, inaugurated 16 months ago, was tasked with strengthening transparency and accountability in the Correctional Service.
