The Oyo State Interfaith Office has called on religious leaders to live out the core values of their faiths as Muslims and Christians observe their respective holy seasons.

In a statement made available to newsmen by the Special Assistant on Interfaith Matters to Governor Seyi Makinde, Rev. Dr. Femi Ibikunle, on Wednesday, urged clerics to demonstrate the virtues of compassion, restraint, justice, and love and define both Islam and Christianity.

“As Muslims begin the observance of Ramadan and Christians are in the Lenten season, periods traditionally marked by fasting, prayer, reflection, and acts of charity, this convergence presents a rare opportunity for spiritual renewal and moral re-awakening in the state,” Ibikunle said.

The Interfaith Office stressed that the pulpit and mosque remain powerful spaces for shaping public attitudes and strengthening social harmony, urging faith leaders to promote messages that discourage division and promote mutual respect.

“It is a time to reflect not only on personal devotion but also on collective responsibility. Religious leaders must set the tone by embodying the peace, humility, and tolerance they preach,” Ibikunle added.

The office called for intensified prayers for Governor Seyi Makinde and members of the state government, noting that governance requires wisdom, courage, and discernment.

“Pray for Governor Seyi Makinde and those entrusted with leadership, that they may act with fairness, integrity, and a deep commitment to the welfare of the people,” the statement urged.

Rev. Dr. Ibikunle advocated for religious harmony across the state, expressing optimism that the ongoing Holy month will usher in greater understanding, stability, and progress for Oyo.

“Our shared future depends on our ability to live together in peace,” he concluded.
