Aseyin, Customs Reaffirm Alliance Against Smuggling in Oyo/Osun

The Aseyin of Iseyin Land, Oba Dr. Sefiu Olawale (Adeyeri III) has reaffirmed the support of the Iseyin community for the Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/Osun Area Command, in the fight against smuggling and other trans-border crimes.

The monarch made this known on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the Command in Ibadan.

Receiving by the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Wale Adewole, and members of the Command’s management team, Oba Olawale said the visit was to reciprocate the courtesy paid to the Iseyin community by the Acting Controller during a stakeholder’s engagements with traditional institutions across the Command.

He commended the Controller for achievements in revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations, pledging a continued cooperation towards the Command’s operational goals.

“The visit was to reciprocate the courtesy visit paid to the Iseyin community and to assure you of our continuous support in sensitising our people on the dangers of smuggling,” the Aseyin said.

The monarch also lauded the Controller for recognizing the role of traditional institutions, citing his engagements with the Alaafin of Oyo, Soun of Ogbomoso, Iba of Kishi, Okere of Saki and Onigbeti of Igbeti, among others.

In his remarks, Deputy Comptroller Adewole expressed appreciation to the Aseyin, noting that he was the first traditional ruler to visit the Command since he assumed office.

He described the gesture as significant and reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining cordial relations with traditional institutions and other stakeholders.

The visit, according to the Command, underscored the importance of community-Customs relations in promoting voluntary compliance, curbing smuggling, enhancing security, and supporting the broader mandate of the Nigeria Customs Service.
