A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and aspirant for Oyo State House of Assembly, Egbeda State Constituency, Hon. Temitope Olawoyin, has commended Oyo Central Senator, Dr Yunus Akintunde, for renovating Anglican Primary School, Wakajaye, in Ibadan.

She said this on Saturday during an on-the-spot assessment of the ongoing project, describing the senator as a strong promoter of primary education.

The public administration professional visited the site alongside the Egbeda Renewed Hope Coordinator, Hon. Biliaminu Ogundele; Special Assistant to the senator, Saheed Alli; former State Exco member and Liaison Officer to the senator in Egbeda, Taoreed Akande; and other key members of the APC.

Olawoyin noted that the selected school deserved the upgrade.

The school, which was founded in the late 1950s/early 1960s, has produced various professionals but was left in a dilapidated state.

Addressing journalists, Hon. Olawoyin said her visit was also to consolidate on the good vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on grassroots development, if elected in 2027.

“Today’s oversight is a huge insight into how we need to further strengthen grassroots development. Imagine this school in a state of disrepair: blown-off roofs, broken walls, cracked buildings, despite its ancient record. Many thanks to Senator Yunus Akintunde for extending this gesture to Ward 7, where I belong. This is unprecedented. I am also ready to lift grassroots development above 80 per cent at my election in 2027,” she said.

The aspiring lawmaker urged Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to grant true local government autonomy, saying this would enable real grassroots development across the 33 local government areas of the state.

Hon. Olawoyin lamented poor infrastructure in primary schools, noting that failure to complement education with adequate infrastructure may affect the growth of primary education.

The gender equality advocate also called on well-meaning Nigerians to return to their alma mater to support the government’s vision of strengthening education.

She commended the president for the transparent allocation of funds to state governors, urging local government administrators to rise to the challenge of performance against poverty, lack of vision, and other issues affecting their residents.

“Education is best needed for positive transformation in Oyo State and Nigeria. Every stakeholder should work together: government, teachers, parents, even pupils have a role to play,” she said.

Olawoyin congratulated the beneficiary school and urged parents and teachers to maintain the project so more can be facilitated.
