The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs), as part of efforts to strengthen the leadership cadre of the Nigeria Police Force.

The newly promoted DIGs, who were selected based on merit, seniority, record of service, and performance in a written examination and oral interview, are expected to bring fresh perspectives to their new roles.

The seven newly promoted DIGs are Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and Umar Shehu Nadada.

The promotions follow the recent elevation of DIG Fayoade Adegoke to the substantive rank of DIG, and are aimed at filling vacancies created by the retirement of eight DIGs who previously occupied strategic offices.

PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (Rtd), charged the new DIGs to live up to the expectations of their new offices, prioritizing national security and fostering a cordial and productive working relationship with the Commission.

Argungu emphasized the importance of the new DIGs working closely with the Commission to ensure the continued development of the Nigeria Police Force.

The PSC Board Members who took part as examiners in the exercise included Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, JSC (rtd); Dr. Taiwo Lakanu (DIG rtd & Chairman, PSC Standing Committee on Police Matters); and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani (Secretary to the Commission).

The promotions are seen as a significant step in strengthening the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, and the new DIGs are expected to play key roles in shaping the future of the Force.

Recall, the Nigeria Police Force has been undergoing reforms aimed at improving its effectiveness in addressing security challenges in the country, and the latest promotions are expected to further boost its capacity to tackle these challenges.
