Politics in Oyo State has evolved into an institution where the final verdict rests with the people rather than a privileged few.

Despite criticisms, a vast majority of residents continue to express confidence in the leadership of His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde (GSM), Executive Governor of Oyo State, citing the visible impact of his administration across the state.

While it is normal that a few individuals remain dissatisfied, observers note that such grievances often stem from personal interests and unfulfilled expectations rather than concern for public welfare.

Instead of acknowledging progress under the Omituntun administration in infrastructure, education, healthcare, road construction, security, economic development and workers’ welfare, some critics have resorted to forming pressure groups and moving from one political platform to another in pursuit of personal ambition.

“Politics, like football, involves transfers and coalition-building,” a political analyst in Ibadan said. “But unlike clubs that recruit to win, some alliances are built around individuals with little electoral value who have repeatedly failed to earn the confidence of the electorate.”

Critics are often asked: “What exactly is Governor Makinde’s offence against the people of Oyo State?” Yet convincing answers are rarely provided, even as the administration sustains people-oriented governance anchored on strategic planning and accountability.

Those who thrive on political patronage rather than public service have found the Makinde administration uncomfortable. The governor, however, has remained focused on delivering sustainable development and improving quality of life.

The growing support for the Omituntun agenda, therefore, reflects public trust in a government seen to be working in the interest of the people.

As the political landscape unfolds ahead of 2027, the people of Oyo State will ultimately decide at the ballot. If current confidence levels are sustained, Omituntun 3.0 remains a realistic aspiration driven by collective will.

As the Yoruba saying goes: “Ago, Seyi Makinde l’ó má dé; adìẹ won gbéyìn”— The future will reveal the true leader, while those lagging behind can only watch progress unfold.
