Oyo Police Arrest Two Suspected Ritualists over Alleged Human Skull In Ijio

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the unlawful possession of an item suspected to be a human skull in Ijio, Kajola Local Government Area of the state.

The arrest followed credible intelligence received by the Command on the activities of one of the suspects.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, said a joint operation by police operatives and the Amotekun Corps led to the arrest of Shittu Isah of Kajola Area, Ijio.

According to the CP, the suspected human skull was recovered from the suspect and secured as an exhibit.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to exhuming the suspected human skull from a Muslim burial ground in Ijio. He also admitted that he did not act alone,” the statement read.

Based on his confession, police operatives arrested a second suspect, identified as Tunde Ajibade, who is currently assisting with investigations.

The Command said the recovered exhibit has been preserved for forensic examination to ascertain its true nature, while investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the act and determine if other persons are involved.

CP Olugbenga reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and maintaining public peace, adding that all those found culpable would be brought to justice.

He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to help prevent and combat crime in the state.
