Oyo APC Women Wing Pushes for 35 percent Reservation Seats Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Women Wing of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State is advocating for a-35 percent affirmative action reservation in governance seats at all levels in Nigeria’s 2027 General Elections.

At a stakeholders’ meeting at the APC State Secretariat in Ibadan on Tuesday, State Women Leader Dr. Felicia Opatunde highlighted the struggles of women in politics, emphasizing the need for inclusiveness.

Opatunde urged female aspirants who may not be favoured in the party primaries to remain dedicated and loyal, assuring them of future rewards. “We seek 35% inclusion of women in governance at all levels in Oyo State. Women should be well compensated,” she said.

Earlier, the APC Chairman, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo assured a transparent process, saying, “The 35 percent affirmative action is difficult but possible. Continue your democratic activities before and after the primary elections. Women will be rewarded in the party.”

Addressing the newsmen, a leading Aspirant for Egbeda State Constituency, Hon. Temitope Olawoyin and Gubernatorial Aspirant, Ambassador Ramata Ayinde (Kerom Lee) called for men’s support for female aspirants, vowing inclusive governance.

Recall, the primary elections are scheduled for April 23 to May 30, 2027, as the Professor Joash Amupitan led INEC announced.

In attendance included the state Executives including the Public Relations Officer, Hon. Wasiu Sadare,ย  from Oyo North, South, Central Senatorial District chairpersons, others.
