Oriire Rescue: Surveillance aircrafts near delivery- Makinde

By, Ola Ayodeni

The Oyo State Government has provided a fresh update on the much-anticipated surveillance aircraft being procured to strengthen the state’s security architecture, assuring residents that the aircraft is now in the final stages of delivery.

Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed the development in his latest newsletter, stating that additional technical procedures required before handover have slightly extended the earlier projected June delivery date.

According to the governor, the final processes are necessary to ensure that all operational, regulatory, and safety requirements are fully completed before the aircraft enters service.

Recall, the update comes amid criticisms from opposition figures who have questioned the sincerity of the government regarding the acquisition of the surveillance aircraft.

“The delivery of Oyo State’s surveillance aircraft is in its final phases. Additional technical procedures required before handover have extended the anticipated delivery timeline beyond the previously projected June delivery date,” he stated.

He noted that upon commissioning, the aircraft would significantly enhance the state’s capacity for aerial surveillance, rapid emergency response, and wider security operations.

The development is particularly significant as security agencies continue intensive operations to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area.

However, Governor Makinde stated that government has continued to provide every necessary support to security agencies involved in the rescue efforts, while recent measures, including the temporary 16-hour curfew imposed in 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park, were aimed at strengthening ongoing operations.

He expressed confidence that the surveillance aircraft would become a major asset in intelligence gathering, monitoring of remote areas, coordinated security operations, and emergency response across Oyo State.

He assured residents that the government would continue to provide updates as the delivery process reaches completion, reiterating his administration’s commitment to building a safer and more secure Oyo State.
