Opposition Parties’ Outrage Over Electoral Act Amendment ‘Unwarranted’ – FG

The Federal Government has dismissed as “unwarranted” the opposition parties’ criticism of the amended Electoral Act, saying they are merely lamenting because the rules have been adjusted to prevent manipulation.

In a statement made available to newsmen by Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on his verified Facebook page, stated the opposition’s claims that the amendment allows for manipulation are “illogical and a needless tantrum”.

The National Assembly had amended the Electoral Act to allow for real-time transmission of election results and the use of Form EC8A as a backup in case of network failure.

Onanuga said the opposition’s rejection of direct primaries as a means of selecting party candidates is “perplexing”, adding that the amendment is a significant improvement over the repealed law.

He accused the opposition of spreading disinformation, urging them to introspect and fix their own issues rather than blaming the ruling party.
