As the world commemorates International Women’s Day, a member of the All Progressives Congress and 2027 Egbeda House of Assembly Aspirant, Hon. Temitope Olawoyin, has called for the celebration of the strength, wisdom, and brilliance of women across Nigeria and the world.
Speaking to newsmen in Ibadan on Subday, the capital of Oyo State, Olawoyin, described women as the “salt of the world and the onion of every prosperous nation,” lauding their resilience, strength, and invaluable contributions to nation-building, community development, and politics.
“Women are the salt of the world. Their wisdom, courage, and dedication sustain families, communities, and even governments. In politics especially, there can be no meaningful success without the involvement and support of women,” she said.
Olawoyin noted that women play a vital role in shaping families, strengthening communities, and influencing leadership decisions, adding that they remain the driving force behind many socio-economic successes recorded in the country.
“No gainsaying, women hold at least 60 percent of the nation’s economy. Women have made monumental histories and records in Nigeria. We are everywhere. We vote day in, day out. We cannot fail to talk about Mama Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, Okonjo Iweala, Senator Remi Tinubu, Chief Ambassador Florence Ajimobi, others are immeasurable to the development of Nigeria’s economy,” she added.
The leading female aspirant emphasized that the celebration of women should not only be a public symbol but also a reminder of the need for continuous empowerment, with a platform to contribute meaningfully to lawmaking, public leadership, and governance.
“In the history of Oyo State politics and governance, the first female speaker Alhaja Monsurat Sunmonu did monumentally historically. Many thanks to the people of Oyo Town for such a platform. Egbeda State Constituency must give her voice for female representation in 2027 for due inclusiveness,” she said.
Olawoyin called on women and the entire constituents to remain united and supportive as the 2027 General Elections draw closer, describing women as the strongest mobilizing force in politics.
The entrepreneur cum politician pledged all-round development for youths, women, and the elderly through set-aside policies and programmes at the election in 2027, urging the Nigerian society to give room for women’s political thriving and healthy contribution in the country.
