Ibadan Grammar School Arts Department Makes History With New Music Album

By Olawale Ogunbusola, Ibadan

The Cultural and Creative Arts Department of Ibadan Grammar School, Ibadan, has released a new music album, making history as one of the few public secondary schools in Nigeria to produce back-to-back folklore albums.

The department, led by Mr. Samuel Ademuyiwa, has in the last eight years produced competitive folklorists, artists and dancers making waves across Ibadan and Nigeria.

The new folklore album titled ‘Edu-Music Album Vol. II’ follows the successful launch of Vol. I in September 2025. The new album has seven tracks: “Ise Teacher”, “Johnbull”, “My Umbrella”, “Omi Olota”, “Ekabo”, “U’re Beautiful” and “Orisun”.

Speaking on Tuesday ahead of the launch, the Head of the Cultural and Creative Arts Department, Mr. Samuel Ademuyiwa, commended the cooperation, resilience and commitment of students and staff.

He said the project reflects the department’s blend of talent and experience.

“My focus is to position Ibadan Grammar School as the leading producer of arts graduates who are globally marketable. Historically, Ibadan Grammar is distinctive in education delivery. Achieving this will improve the socioeconomic standing of parents, Oyo State and Nigeria through our arts graduates,” he said.

The arts educationist appealed to the National President of the School’s Alumni Association, Barrister Adedayo Onakoya, to mobilize successful alumni to support the department with materials and scholarships to boost global competitiveness.

He also called on the Chairman of
All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, Zone 1 in Oyo State, Mr. O.A. Asiribo, and the presiding principals of the school including, Mrs Kolade, O.A,  Mr. S.A Fatorisa and Mr. K. Oloto to continue supporting the department to sustain its legacy.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ademuyiwa urged Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to institute an arts competition among secondary schools to discover local talents. He said this would help address truancy and prevent talent waste among young Nigerians.
