A renowned English scholar and administrator in the University of Ibadan, Professor Emmanuel Babatunde Omobowale has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of West Midlands Open University (WMOU), Ikeja, Lagos State.

The appointment, announced on Thursday, is for a term of five years, subject to the University’s statutes governing the office of Vice-Chancellor.

Omobowale, aged 57, was a former head of department of English at the University of Ibadan, where he has made significant contributions to academia and administration.

A distinguished scholar, Omobowale holds degrees from the University of Ibadan and Case Western Reserve University Cleveland. He has published over 50 articles and supervised numerous theses and projects.

His administrative experience includes serving as Head of the Department of English and Director of the Distance Learning Centre at the University of Ibadan.

In his reaction, former Vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Pro-Chancellor of the Institution and Chairman of Council, Professor Idowu Olayinka, praised Omobowale’s integrity, hard work, and transparency, describing it a worthy appointment.

“We wish Professor Omobowale a successful tenure as Vice-Chancellor of WMO University, Ikeja.”, he said.
