Breaking: Rivers Senator,Mpigi Passes Away

Nigeria has lost a senior lawmaker.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Barinada Mpigi, has passed away at the age of 64.

His death was confirmed on Thursday by close sources, though the cause has not yet been made public.

The news has sent shockwaves across the National Assembly and Rivers State political circles.

Mpigi represented the Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the Senate until his death.

He was widely known for his strong voice on infrastructure development and security challenges in the Niger Delta.

Born on June 23, 1961, Mpigi began his political career in the House of Representatives in 2011.
He served two terms in the lower chamber after winning re-election in 2016.

In 2019, he moved to the Senate after securing victory on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
His entry into the Red Chamber marked a major step in his legislative journey.

During the 9th Assembly, Mpigi was appointed chairman of a special joint Senate committee set up to investigate crude oil theft in the Niger Delta.
The role placed him at the centre of national efforts to tackle economic sabotage and protect oil revenues.

As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, he supervised federal road and infrastructure projects across the country.
Colleagues described him as a committed legislator who pushed for accountability in public works.

Tributes have continued to pour in from lawmakers and political leaders who praised his service to Rivers State and Nigeria.
The Senate is expected to formally announce his passing and observe official procedures in his honour.
