APC Aspirants’ Absence Fuels Defection Rumours? || Adedayo Philip

Recent developments within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have prompted renewed conversations about party cohesion, participation, and the evolving ambitions of some aspirants ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The recent declaration of gubernatorial ambition by Sen Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli in Ibadan attracted a significant turnout of party leaders, including members of the APC National Assembly caucus from Oyo State, who were in attendance in a clear show of support and solidarity. The gathering was widely seen as a demonstration of unity and shared purpose within the party.

However, the absence of some notable aspirants, particularly those seeking seats in the Oyo State House of Assembly, has not gone unnoticed. While political schedules and personal engagements may account for such absences, observers note that participation in major party activities often serves as an important indicator of alignment and engagement.

There have also been reports suggesting that a few political figures are exploring opportunities outside the APC. For instance, KTJ from Oluyole has been linked with the ADP in relation to gubernatorial aspirations, while Baameko is associated with the SDP. At the legislative level, names such as Rauf Titiloye Taiwo from Atiba Local Government, Kunle Teslim from Iseyin/Itesiwaju constituency, and Taiwo Okunlola from Oyo East/West have been mentioned in discussions about recent party activities, particularly regarding their absence at key events.

While these developments remain fluid, they reflect the dynamic nature of politics, where aspirations, strategy, and opportunity often intersect.

Political analysts note that factors such as internal party processes, the cost of nomination forms, and alignment with influential stakeholders can shape decisions at this stage. For aspirants, balancing personal ambition with party expectations remains a delicate task.

Supporters of Senator Alli’s aspiration, on their part, have continued to demonstrate visible engagement, reinforcing the importance of participation in strengthening party unity and building momentum.

As the political terrain continues to evolve, the APC in Oyo State faces the broader task of sustaining cohesion while accommodating diverse interests within its ranks. For aspirants, consistent engagement in party activities may prove essential, not only for visibility but also for reinforcing confidence among party members and supporters.

As the party moves forward, recognition and support must be given to those who have consistently demonstrated commitment through active participation and mobilization in party activities.

Ultimately, whether recent absences signal deeper political realignments or are simply a reflection of individual circumstances will become clearer in the coming months. What remains certain is that active participation and unity will play a crucial role in shaping the party’s prospects moving forward.
