Opinion: Despite Global Crude Oil Price Hike, Dangote Refinery Maintains Stable Prices|| Benedict Adetunji

At a time when the global crude oil market is experiencing significant price pressure, the decision by Dangote Refinery to keep the prices of its petroleum products stable deserves commendation.

For the average Nigerian, stability in fuel prices means far more than the cost at the pump. It directly impacts transportation fares, food prices, education costs, small businesses, logistics, and virtually every facet of daily life. Any sharp increase in fuel prices immediately adds financial strain on families and businesses already contending with economic hardship.

In this context, the refinery’s choice to maintain relatively stable prices amid global uncertainty should be welcomed. It provides much-needed relief to Nigerians and reflects a sense of responsibility toward the broader economy.

We commend this effort to shield citizens from unnecessary hardship during fluctuations in the international crude oil market.

However, this moment also serves as a reminder that Nigeria’s energy sector must ultimately serve the Nigerian people. Government agencies, regulators, indigenous investors, and other industry players must collaborate to ensure transparency, healthy competition, energy security, and sustainable pricing.

Nigerians deserve an energy sector where local refining translates into tangible economic benefits: more affordable transportation, stronger businesses, and increased employment opportunities.

We urge Dangote Refinery to sustain this responsible approach while continuing to invest in the growth and development of Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

A stable energy market brings relief to Nigerian families. And building a prosperous Nigeria remains a collective responsibility.
