Police officer Olatunji Rilwan Disu has assumed office as Nigeria’s 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police (IGP), taking over from Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who served from June 2023 to February 2026.

Disu, a seasoned law enforcement officer with over three decades of experience, brings a wealth of expertise in operations, investigations, intelligence, and administration to the role. His educational background includes master’s degrees in entrepreneurship, criminology, and public administration.

As IGP, Disu has pledged to build on existing reforms, enhance internal security, and strengthen community partnerships to protect lives and property. “We will consolidate on existing reforms, enhance internal security, and advance the Force’s mandate in line with global best practices,” he reassured.

Disu’s career highlights include leading the Nigerian Police contingent to the African Union Mission in Sudan and serving as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory. He is a member of several professional associations, including the International Academy of Forensics and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations.

The Nigeria Police Force acknowledges the contributions of the outgoing IGP, Egbetokun, and seeks public support for the new leadership as it works to deepen professionalism and service delivery [1].
