NAF Airlifts First Batch Of Nigerian Troops For Ecowas Mission In Guinea-Bissau

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has airlifted the first batch of Nigerian troops deploying for the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB), reaffirming the service’s strategic airlift role in support of national and regional security.

The contingent, comprising 86 personnel — 12 officers and 74 soldiers — departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, aboard a NAF C-130 aircraft. The remaining troops are scheduled for deployment in a subsequent airlift under the mission, codenamed NIGCOY 5.

Prior to departure, the troops were addressed at the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Force Operations Base, Abuja. They were charged to uphold professionalism, discipline, and integrity as representatives of the Nigerian Army, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The deployment highlights the synergy among the Armed Forces and underscores the NAF’s capacity to provide strategic air mobility for national and multinational operations.

It also reflects Nigeria’s continued leadership in ECOWAS peace support operations and its commitment to regional stability, international cooperation, and projecting the country’s professional image globally.
