NAOS Defends Makinde’s Call For UN Verification On Oriire Kidnap

By Omowumi Hannah, Ibadan

The National Association of Oduduwa Students, NAOS, has described as “neither unpatriotic nor unprecedented” Governor Seyi Makinde’s call for independent verification by the United Nations on the abduction in Oriire Local Government Area, Ogbomoso axis of Oyo State.

In a statement issued by its President, Comrade Olalere Benedict Adetunji, NAOS condemned attempts to politicize the issue, saying matters of security and human lives deserve objective engagement rather than partisan attacks.

The student body noted that past leaders, including former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration and current President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had at various times sought international attention on national security and governance issues.

“Against this backdrop, it is neither unprecedented nor unpatriotic for a public office holder to seek independent verification or international attention on a matter as grave as the abduction of innocent citizens,” the statement read.

NAOS said patriotism should be measured by support for lawful efforts that promote truth, justice, and the protection of lives, not by silence in the face of insecurity.

The association called on stakeholders to rise above political differences and support every legitimate effort aimed at strengthening security and restoring public confidence in Oyo State and Nigeria.
