Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reiterated his commitment to improving the economy and reducing street trading in the state. He made this known during the commissioning of lock-up shops and mini motorparks at Bodija Market in Ibadan, the state capital.

Makinde stated that the initiative is aimed at protecting traders and motorpark operators, providing them with a safe and secure environment to conduct their businesses.

“We are committed to ensuring that our citizens, particularly traders and motorpark operators, have a conducive environment to thrive,” he said.

The governor also announced that 540 stalls would be given out free of charge, named after Bodija Market Chairman, Aderemi Jimoh. This move is expected to boost economic activities in the area and reduce street trading.

Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Seun Olufade, and Grand Patron of Oyo Traders, Y.K Abass, lauded the initiative, saying it would reduce street trading and accidents involving motorists and traders.

This is not the first time Makinde has taken steps to improve the state’s economy, earlier in 2024, he commissioned similar lock-up shops and motor park at Gate Market.

Meanwhile, the governor’s efforts have been praised by stakeholders, who believe that his initiatives will drive growth and development in the state.
