Customs Officials Engage Traditional Rulers In Oyo State

The Acting Customs Area Controller, Oyo/Osun Area Command & Deputy Controller, Wale Adewole has paid a familiarization visit to traditional rulers in Igbeti, Kishi, and Saki axis of Oyo State.

The aime to strengthen collaboration on revenue generation, trade facilitation, and border security.

In a statement made available to newsmen by area Command’s Public Relations’ officer, Abdulmalik Akintola on Wednesday, DC Adeoye commended the communities for their co-operation, emphasizing the importance of partnership in enhancing operational efficiency.

DC Adewole discouraged youth involvement in illegal trade, as to addresse social vices.

In their responses, the monarchs, including the Onigbeti of Igbeti, Oba Engr. Bashir Olalekan, the Iba of Kishi, Oba Dr. Masoud Lawal Oyekola Aweda, and the Okere of Saki, Oba Dr. (Surv) Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi Ayinla, appreciated the visit and assured the Customs officials of their communities’ support in sensitising residents on the dangers of smuggling and promoting lawful trade.

The traditional rulers also called for the establishment of a Customs presence in the axis to enhance trade facilitation and expressed their commitment to promoting peace and order in their domains.

Recall, the visit is part of efforts by the Nigeria Customs Service to engage with stakeholders and promote economic growth and security in the region.
