PDP Govs’ Forum Chair, Bala may Join APC in coming days

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has reportedly begun moves that could see him leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a development that could trigger fresh political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

Sources familiar with the development said discussions about the governor’s possible defection are ongoing, although no official confirmation has been made by Mohammed or his political associates.

Reports indicate that negotiations between the governor and key figures within the APC may already be underway, with the talks believed to be centred on his potential entry into the party and future political positioning.

However, the situation remains uncertain as Mohammed, who currently serves as chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, has publicly announced any plan to abandon the opposition party.

The speculation has generated significant attention within political circles, particularly because Mohammed is regarded as one of the prominent figures in the PDP and a key voice among the party’s serving governors.

Moreover, a possible defection by the Bauchi governor could further deepen concerns about internal challenges facing the PDP, especially as political actors begin positioning for the next general elections.

Although rumours of Mohammed’s potential exit from the PDP have surfaced in the past, aides to the governor previously dismissed similar claims, insisting he remained committed to the party.

Nevertheless, the latest reports have intensified discussions within both the PDP and APC, with observers closely monitoring developments that may reshape political alignments in the coming months.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Bauchi State Government nor the national leadership of the PDP and APC has issued an official statement regarding the alleged move.
