COYYM Urges Arewa Youth to Shelve Protest, tells Tinubu to increase Crude Oil Supply to Dangote Refinery

The Coalition of Yoruba Youth Movement (COYYM) has called on the Arewa Youth for Good Leadership to abandon their planned protest in Lagos on March 19, 2026, citing the need for collective efforts to address the country’s fuel crisis.

In a statement signed by the national president of the association,Comrade Benedict Adetunji, and made available to newsmen on Tuesday, the association emphasized that the current fuel scarcity and price hike should not be blamed on the Dangote Refinery, but rather on global tensions affecting the international crude oil market, particularly the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The group noted that the Dangote Refinery has not been receiving adequate crude oil supply locally, forcing it to import from outside Nigeria to sustain operations.

“We are getting about 28% from NNPCL. Maximum we have got is about 32% . So , we have to go to traders and middle men and buy . Since we want to use as much Nigerian crude as possible , we have reduced our imports a lot .”

COYYM urged the stakeholders to avoid spreading misinformation, calling for calmness while efforts continue to stabilize fuel supply and pricing.

The association also warned groups planning protests to stay away from the Southwest region of Nigeria, stressing that actions creating tension would not be tolerated, while the coalition advocated for a unified push for 100 percent crude oil supply to the Dangote Refinery and other local refineries.

Meanwhile, the group called on the federal government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure a full and steady supply of crude oil to the Dangote Refinery within seven days, warning that failure to comply would lead to mass protests across the country.

“We are equal to protect the interest of our dear Nation,” Comrade Adetunji concluded.
