The Coalition of Yoruba Youth Movement (COYYM) has warned youths in Oyo State against falling for political deception as political activities gather momentum ahead of future elections.
The President of the group, Comrade Olalere Benedict Adetunji, gave the warning in a statement issued on Monday, where he urged youths to be vigilant and scrutinise the records and promises of political actors.
Adetunji said while it is the right of politicians to criticise government, such criticism must be constructive and backed with evidence and alternative solutions, rather than personal attacks and propaganda.
He noted that the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde should be judged by its measurable achievements and shortcomings, adding that those aspiring to take over must also be ready to present their own track records and practical plans for the state.
“Not everyone who comes in sheep’s clothing has the interest of the people at heart. Political promises must be examined against records, character and consistency,” he said.
The youth leader further stressed that past performance should guide future expectations, insisting that anyone who had held public office must account for what was achieved while in office.

He charged Oyo youths not to allow themselves to be used as tools for political hostility, misinformation and personality-driven campaigns, but to demand issue-based engagement on employment, education, healthcare, infrastructure and security.
“Oyo State belongs to all its citizens. Its future must be determined by informed public judgment rather than deception, propaganda or manufactured outrage,” Adetunji added.
