The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of an armed robbery gang linked to the attack that claimed the life of a 44-year-old woman, Mrs. Wahab Rukayat, in the Wofun Olodo area of Ibadan.

The suspects, arrested on Friday, were identified as Akinrinola Oluwatobi, 28; Okunola Mathew, 24; and Ibrahim Rabiu, 23.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the robbery occurred on August 4, 2026, at about 2:30 a.m. at the residence of one Alhaji Olatokunbo in Wofun Olodo. During the attack, the robbers shot and killed Mrs. Rukayat and injured other occupants.

The gang also carted away mobile phones, wristwatches, $400, and other valuables estimated at ₦3.493 million.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, ordered the case transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, for investigation.

Acting on intelligence, VCRU operatives raided a suspected hideout in the Sabo area of Ibadan and arrested the three suspects. An iPhone 7 Plus belonging to one of the victims was recovered.

During an identification parade, surviving victims identified the suspects as members of the gang. The suspects also confessed to the Wofun Olodo robbery and admitted involvement in other robberies around Wofun Olodo and Akobo areas.

CP Olugbenga has directed VCRU to intensify efforts to arrest other fleeing gang members and those who may have received stolen items.

Meanwhile, the Command assured residents of continued deployment of intelligence and technology to combat violent crime, and urged the public to provide timely information.
