A state police service equipped with forensic firearms capabilities can build a ballistic intelligence database that links firearms used in multiple crimes. This enables investigators to identify repeat offenders, map criminal networks, and detect patterns across local government areas, allowing preventive action rather than relying solely on reactive policing.
2. Faster Investigation of Violent Crimes
State-based forensic laboratories would reduce delays associated with sending exhibits to distant federal facilities. Timely examination of bullets, cartridge cases, and gunshot residue can accelerate investigations and improve the chances of arresting suspects before they flee or destroy evidence.
3. Enhanced Response to Kidnapping
In kidnapping cases, ballistic evidence can:
