Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has urged indigenes of Ibadan to sustain peaceful coexistence to ensure the continued success of the ancient city.

Governor Makinde made the call at the grand finale of the Ibadan Cultural Festival, held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

The Governor Makinde, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, assured residents that his administration would create opportunities for indigenes to elevate the festival to greater heights.

Describing the event as a “colourful celebration” he restated his government’s focus on security and development, and reaffirmed ongoing efforts to protect lives and property, alongside sustained investment in road infrastructure, healthcare, and education across Oyo State.

Chairman of the occasion, High Chief Kola Kareem, described the grand finale as a defining moment for the city’s identity.

Earlier, President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Barrister Ajeniyi Ajewole, said the next edition would build on this year’s success with broader inclusion and more activities for residents and visitors of Ibadanland.

The event featured displays of Ibadan culture by indigenous groups, families, and compounds through traditional dress, costume, and march-past. Awards were also presented to individuals who have contributed to the growth of Ibadanland.
